The app reads your precise GPS position while the map is open. Nothing about the world moves until you do.
Your point falls in one hexagon.
The server converts your coordinates to a single map cell — about a football pitch across. You never name the cell; it is derived from where you stand.
The fix has to be worth trusting.
A claim needs accuracy within 30 metres, and the movement has to be plausible. Spoofed or teleporting fixes are refused before anything is written.
The server writes the ground to you.
Only the server decides ownership — your device can't assert it. The cell is stamped with your identity and fills with your colour.
Cells become a shape.
Hold neighbouring ground and it knits into territory — the same geometry, seen the same way by everyone on the map, in real time.
It holds until it's taken.
Close the app, come back tomorrow — your ground is still yours, restored from the server. It changes only when someone walks in and claims it.
Presence is the only currency.
No purchase, no tap, no shortcut buys a cell. Because ownership is decided server-side from a validated fix, the only way onto the board is to actually be there — which is what makes holding ground mean something.
